We live in an area that recently has had a lot of rain. Our water in the house is now "dirty" looking...brown in color. We are on a well. It has been this way for a couple of days now. What should we do?

Do not drink it. Call your health department in the AM. You likely have a problem a driller will have to look at.

What kind of well do you have?

I assume you aren't ingesting the water. If you are you should get bottled water.

You need a Coliform bacteria and nitrate tests. And you might want hardness, iron, pH and if possible, manganese.

If you find Coliform, you can either work on the well but there are no guarantees with that, or you can buy disinfection type water treatment equipment; there are a number of choices such as a UV light, 2-3 types of chlorine systems, hydrogen peroxide or ozone.
