Please help; new faucet won't turn off

I just finished installing a brand new 4 inch spread Lyntier Kohler faucet, and the hot water does not stop running when the handle is in the off position. I took the assembly apart as much as I could to see if I could adjust it, but I was not able to remove the part below the spline adapter that you can see by scrolling down to page 14 here:

I put a wrench on it, and tried to loosen it both ways (it says that one model has reverse threads). The spline just spins freely, with the water flow going from fully on to a slow stream. Any advice would be appreciated, as I'm hoping to have this fixed by the weekend (Son's first birthday party is on Saturday).

If you have time take the faucet back and get a new one! They shouldn't come out of the box like this. If you risk repairing it you'll void the warranty (most likely).

However if you do want to repair it I would just try wrenching on the packing nut holding the cartridge in place. It should come out. The PDF shows that it is threaded.

I have fixed these style of faucets before (basically 1/4 turn ball valves) by disassembling them and then recalibrating them. By that I mean adjusting the cartridge so that the valve movement matches the handle.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I bought the faucet online from Home Depot, and they won't accept it as a return because I installed it. They said I have to deal with Kohler directly, and I was hoping to have this sorted out before the party tomorrow. If it is a ball valve, wouldn't it turn off when the handle is off and I rotate the spline? It just spins continuously when I turn it towards the off position, and cycles between full flow and a slow flow. Thanks, Mike

When they mention "left hand threads" it has nothing to do with taking the faucet apart. That reference is to faucets with lever handles which need one side or the other to be a left hand thread so the handles operate in the correct direction. IF it turns and leaks, then the stem is loose for some reason, either because it is not tight, or there is a missing piece.

Thanks HJ, after looking at the diagram again I did figure that out about the handle and threads, but it wouldn't unscrew with me applying significant force with a ratchet. I was only holding the base with my hand, so I could get some vice grips down below and try to force it. Do you think that it's worth trying, or by my previous description, should I just deal with Kohler and wait it out? Thanks again, Mike

Put the faucet on the sink so its openings hold the faucet, then use a box end wrench, (with a few taps from a hammer on its end). IF it is that tight it is not loose, unless it was cross threaded, so you may need a new stem.

All fixed! I did what you suggested and the valve came out. Even though it is brand new, it was all crudded up. It must have been on the shelf for a long time in a humid area or something. Anyway, Kohler was very helpful; they're sending me a new valve. In the meantime, I picked one up from my local plumbing supply house, where they said that they would accept the one from Kohler as a return when I get it. It's installed now and working as it should. It's so nice to experience some solid customer service these days!

Thank god you were able to fix it ! ! !

I was going to suggest trading it in for a "old" faucet that does turn off ha. Ha
