Found a handful of off-white particles from hot water heater drain and flush this weekend. They do not float in water. They do not get dissolved in white vinegar. It is an American WH that they claim uses a blue dip tube. In front of the WH is a Morton water softener. The anode was about gone - so I will be replacing this week.

Ideas as to what these may be ? or how to diagnose ?

Thanks !

If you pull and inspect the dip tube you will know...you can pick up dip tubes at The orange Big box store....
