Recommendations for high flow pre- and post- filter cansisters?

I would like to add a sediment pre-filter and a carbon post-filter before/after the softener and Filox filter tank. Any recommendations on good models to consider? Originally we bought the Crystal Quest 20" canisters but they are having manufacturing problems with their thread machining, and so we had to return them. I noticed that most of the filter canisters out there are pretty small. I'm looking for larger-than-average ones for less flow restriction, and preferably in stainless steel but might consider plastic too.

good suggestion.. my only concern about the re-usable sediment filter would be if bacteria could use the surface area if the cartridge is not totally replaced sometimes. We have well water and I think we have IRB (Iron Reducing Bacteria) and the sediment filter will come first before the iron filtration. Also welcoming suggestions for the carbon post- filter too..

Disposable cartridge filters are a poor choice because they were never meant to be used for point of entry treatment.

When they start to block up and reduce flow, your equipment will suffer leading to its failing.

Your equipment does not need those filters. And your equipment is going to do what you want the filters to do. So save your money. And get the Filox filter installed before the softener.

thanks Gary, we'll skip the pre- and post- filter canisters. I thought maybe a carbon filter at the very end would remove some chemicals that the Filox will not remove, but also we should consider the potential for the carbon filter to get clogged up. We were thinking of something like the Pentek RFC20-BB Radial Flow Water Filter (carbon 20") in a simple 20" housing, but will probably skip it.

I am not a fan of removing chlorine on a whole house (POE) basis.

It is in the water because it is needed to control bacteria.

If you want the chlorine out of your shower water, buy a shower head filter. Wal-Mart has them.

And for drinking water, buy an under the counter two stage filter that has its own long reach swivel faucet as an RO has. I have one with two spare cartridges (one sediment and one carbon block), for under $150 delivered by UPS.
