Rust in not the problem with liners. Water getting between the tub and the liner, making a squishy bottom like a water bed, with no way to get rid of the water, IS the problem with them.

WHEN THE COSULTANT CAME OUT FROM NUBATH AND LOOKED AT OUR TUB WHICH WAS AN OLDER TUB IN A HOME WE WERE REMODELING THAT WAS BUILT IN THE 50s HE RECOMENDED THAT WE PUT A LINER IN THE TUB. THE BOTTOM OF THE TUB HAD A LOT OF RUST.I QUESTIONED HIM ABOUT THIS AND HE SAID IT WOULD NOT RUST THRU WITH A LINER ON TOP OF IT IAM NOT STUPID OR AM I?

The liner also must be an exact match for the contour of the tub...they have many versions, but not all.
