I am wanting to install a bathroom in my basement and will have to install a sewer pump. I cannot tie into my existing vent through the roof. Can I vent to the unfinished part of my basement, and if so, will there be an odor? Also, what is the normal life of a sewer pump? Are they reliable?

1) yes there will definitely be an odor. You need to run the vent out to the open air

2) I've seen some that have been in operation for 10 years and longer with no problem. I've seen others fail after a couple of years or less. Depends on the type of pump and if it is installed properly.

3) See answer #2

Good luck!
