Well, I don't think you see Gould fuses any more. I could be wrong, but I think FerrazShawmut bought up that brand.
Anyway, 45 amps could be in the ballpark for a 5 ton condenser.

If you were to guess, How old would you say these fuse's are?
Not even sure what the one on the right is .... Should these be in a 5 ton heat pump rated for 50amp? They are 45amp.

I got 24A for a 5 ton heat pump with COP = 3 at 240v. Start up current may be 6x higher.
Wrap the fuse in several layers of newspaper and hit it with a hammer. If the fuse element inside is only cracked in one place it was a fatigue failure or a mild overload. If the element is splattered it was a heavy overload.
