I am replacing a tub, a picture of the P-trap is below. A 1.5" pvc pipe was inserted into the hole. What is the correct way to fit the waste and overflow pipe into this existing hub? There is not enough pipe coming out of the hub to attach an adapter.

The correct way is to remove the lead, remove the pipe stub, insert a new pipe stub of the proper length, and then repour the lead joint. Assuming it is in the proper location for the new fixture.
