I'm trying to choose a new kitchen faucet, and am considering a Grohe "ladylux cafe" type. However, a plumber once told me that a faucet with a pull-out sprayer is not a good idea. Does anyone have an opinion on this, hopefully based on experience?

Grohe is a good brand and the ladylux models have a long track record. However, in my experience, there is no brand of pull out faucet which has a good track record. For whatever reason, the hoses and nozzles do not hold up. If you like the style, get a faucet with a lifetime warranty and save your receipts. Be prepared to wait several days for them to mail parts each time it croaks.

I went with a Grohe pull out. SO far, no problems. One place I looked carried both Grohe and KWC (a Swiss company - huge - probably the biggest faucet maker in the world - makes Delta look like a corner store). He felt that the KWC pull-outs were more reliable. Can't say, as I only have one! and it's not a KWC. They do make some nice designs, but I liked the one I have.

I am faucet shopping, and what is looking good to me is a KWC at Costco, my local store, no idea on others, is closing out what they have for about half price, around $50 if memory serves.

buy a Delta

get something that is going to last you
a decade or two. Delta will do that

Ghroe is a very good faucet too, they are just harder
to take apart and repair without knicking them up.

but like the other guy said, you will be waiting up to
a week to get parts mailed to you from Ghroe..
--------------------------------------------------------

Dont fool around with some piece of junk
that you get for 1/2 price from a store that is going out of business..
you will leve to regret it...(all sales final) ect

also ....ALL the pull out type sprays are not ""kid freindly""...

every brand made is prone to problems especially if

you got small children that seem to want to hang on

that hose and pull it out of the wall ...

it just seems that they like to play with them.

gud luck

Costco return policy is your satisfaction, currently if you bring back any product you are unhappy with you get a full refund no questions asked. The only time limit is on computer stuff which is limited to 6 months. Nobody I know can touch that policy.

A bargain isn't a cheap price, its good value, a quality product offered at a larger than normal discount. Plumbing is FAT with good bargains for anybody that can spend the time to look around, and paid for by those that don't. Half an hour on FleaBay and I was ready to start planning a bathroom remodel, all with top brands at dirt cheap prices.

KWC is new to me, but I trust Costco to sell a premium product, so I am at least going to consider it. I grew up with American Standard, and lived with Delta in every cheap apartment I ever lived in.

My guess is that Costco and Home Depot scare the stuff out of a lot of local retailers, but it does you no good to attack them on quality or customer service. Besides they have plenty of weakness that make them poor choices for many consumers. People doing the install themselves, or expecting you to install the box from Costco is where things are going.

go fo it

It appears you misunderstood me.....

I have Never heard of a KWC faucet,
and I dont know who Cotsco is either....

all I am saying is its usually better to get a
name brand for a little just a little more , thats all.

I am sure they carry Delta or Moen at Cotsco..
-----------------------------------------------------------

But I do know this.... FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

if I come out to your home for a "set pre-determined price"
to install your bargain "off brand faucet" ,

just remember that I dont warranty your faucet,
thats your problem, (and thats your big saveings too)

Also, I dont come
back in three weeks for free to repair it either

and if that bargain is defective from the get-go (leaks--ect)
(this happens more than you would ever believe)

or the unit you bought on E-bay
is missing parts, or is defective........
(or is too hot to handle--being stolen goods and all )

YOU WILL STILL HAVE TO PAY ME-- the price
we had agreed on., no excuses, no exceptions...

I did not supply the junk, I only installed it.

I tried to sell you a good Delta or Moen faucet
with a full year warranty on labor and parts,

but you were too cheap to take me up on it...

been there and done this
----------------------------------------------------------------

Now , you can spend the weekend attempting to
find parts for the KWC bargain,

or you can take that faucet back to the
place where you bought it from and see if they will
pay the plumbers bill. --- fat chance of that happenning.

good luck with your bargain...

Take this with a grain of salt, but I was told Delta looked into buying KWC until they found out their gross was multiples of their own sales - KWC is huge, just not so much here.

KWC is sold through high end design centers and remodelers. They are good but the usual question of who can service them and how so you get parts.

Never heard of Costco? Well, I thought they were everwhere; apparently not. It is a very large warehouse type all purpose grocery and everything else store. They look for excellent price points on good quality stuff. It is a membership store; costs about $45 a year. They tend to sell most things in bulk. i.e. corn flakes are going to come in a giant box, and probably a 2-pack. Sock, probably by the dozen. Toilet paper:case of 24. Toothpaste:carton of 12 tubes. Now something like a faucet will be sold onesy. They sell gasoline, tires, computers and TV's, clothing, and groceries. A lot of the grocery items are aimed at the small mom and pop restaurants.

Costco is the competitor to Sams Club, and the best way to describe both of them is that inventory is based on pallets of an item, most of the goods are premium, but not maybe the very highest, and everything is sold at a low fixed markup so items with normally high margins can be much cheaper. The ones near me have a dozen cashiers busy all day every day, and that is moving a LOT of goods. Moen appears to the brand they carry the most.

Also locally just a guess, but maybe 80% of everything a plumber might offer to sell and install is going to be from Home Depot. If I buy my faucet from the plumber that installs it, are you suggesting they are going to fix the faucet six months later if it has some problem without charging me? Not likely, plus I really can handle a faucet repair, its just the crawling under the sink I could do without to initially install it.

I saw this in my web searching and I am just passing it along for amusement.

************************************* Quoted from a different thread in a different place.
The good news: Delta parts are widely available.

The bad news: the reason those parts are so widely available is
because there is a strong demand for them, one that cannot be explained
merely by Delta's high sales figures.

again, I say -- go for it

yes , usually if you buy the faucet from an honest plumber

(at least talking for myself) they will give you a year

warranty on labor.....and come back to fix it for free for

365 days. (thats one year)

the reason that Delta parts are in Demand is because

of the unbelivable non-stop volume of sales since at least 1990

that is because of their quality , not their shoddiness...

if you got probably close to 100 mil + faucets out there

somebody is going to need parts someday.
-------------------------------------------------------------
I dont put in junk, and I cant afford to play around

with merchandise that will fail me before I even get paid.

So, Delta is about all I sell, because it will most likely

last somewhere upwards of 10 to 15 years without haveing to

make repairs to it. Depending on the hardness of the water and

how much the homeowner abuses the faucet.

I probably got about 300+ faucets laying around in my building
mostly from Delta dateing all the way back into the 70s

bone, aolmond, polished brass, antique brass, satin brass,
red, grey, gold, chrome ect......it goes on

Occasionally I find a place to dump a few. rental properties ect.
Thought about putting them on e-bay,
but that is too much time and trouble.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

but you go ahead and do what you just HAVE to do----

and I will keep doing do what I know HOW to do.

good luck--god bless -- now go for it.

Moen faucets

What do you think about Moen faucets? I'm considering buying a Moen "Monticello" kitchen faucet.

moen faucets

they are ok thats about it...

they are a little harder to work with when needing
repairs made to them....

I just took one out last week....they just dont feel sturdy.

they do on average seem to last a good long time

but some of their models its acutally easier just to
change the faucet than to fight trying to pull them apart

their pull out sprayer type kitchen faucet is a total joke.
I have changed out a number of them.

they ar e ok but feel a little cheaper and
like a large step down from Delta

Faucets

I agree with the guys and like Delta. If your doing a job for yourself, a repair is cheaper and doesn't take up much time. Alot of these expensive faucets are not worth the cost. Delta is easy to repair and you can get parts anywhere. The last I knew , you could get Delta and Moen in diferent qualities. (more brass and heavier) The Moen cartrige is so easy to replace. You could probable call the Moen Co. and they may send you out a cartrige free of charge. And they both wear well on most types of water.........
