I guess you tried taking out the battery and just try using the power cable right? You probably did, but, I thought I would run it by you, just in case.

Some laptops will not work without a battery installed - dead or not, Weird - but I guess the contacts finish a circuit
Possible some will not work without a working battery
Or one of the contacts is messed up on the battery & the circuit is not complete

Clay, what about a warranty? Do you have a warranty maybe, you forgot you had? I bought the warranty with my laptop and honesty, I would probably forget I had it. Plus, their was something else, I wanted to tell you, I can't remember...

OH, I was talking to someone today whose computer is down too, and I said, " you know why you can't fix it?" He was laughing and I was laughing, he said, " yeah, because I don't know how." ha ha ha ha...

I added, " well.... yeaaaaah, but also, cause you are over 50!" You need to be a kid to fix these things. :p

The IBM Think Pads can run with out the batteries. It is pretty common for where the power cord plugs into the laptop to break away from the motherboard.

Its a poor design on lots of laptops. The cord gets stressed at angles and breaks that part free, also seen where the inside connections in that block are just worn or bent in such a way it caused trouble as well.

I have many of friends that bring me their broken electronics to fix for them.

It may have locked up in hibernation mode.

Take the power cord out and take the battery out.

Leave it a few minutes.

Put the battery back in and put the power cord back in.

Presto.

There is an internal battery that keeps things going like the clock etc.
It is a button type battery mounted on one of the boards...

When this dies the laptop will not start even with a power cord attached and a good battery...

Many laptops will run fine off the power cord with a dead battery...
