Default Angies List, Deb Benedict, Mean Dog, Woodinville WA

The Case of the man eating dog!

A story about a mean dog that didn't allow the plumbers to work inside the house.
Deb Benedict, who owns the dog was at work while the dog guarded the house.
It's pretty tough to get things done in those conditions.
We agree with the homeowner about a few things.
We do excellent work and our prices are fair.
But as for her comment “it took 3 weeks for the job to get done” Let us explain!

In this case, her previous plumber had left the job unfinished and we were there to complete it.

Our communication had been by email and phone.
She was to leave a key, and she gave us her cell number.
Normally the homeowner is there when we do jobs, but it is not unusual for the homeowner to leave a key and a contact phone number so we can perform the work while they are away.

The homeowner told us not to enter if her dog was in the house because it would attack,
so she would leave the dog with the neighbor that day.

We showed up the first day, for what should have been a 3-4 hour job with two plumbers.
The Dog was in the house and barking at us.
We could not enter the home.
We called the homeowner several times, but there was no answer.
We left messages and we waited for a return call. After 30 minutes we left.

Later that day, she finally called back. It was 3pm now, she said she was home and would take care of the dog.
We returned for the 2nd time and we were able to complete some of the tasks.
At this time the homeowner asked us to order her a new toilet to match her tub.
We told her it would be about 7-10 days for the toilet to come in from the factory.
Since it was getting late we all agreed it would make the most sense to complete the rest of the jobs when the toilet came in.

On the third trip, we brought out the new toilet, but the dog met us at the door again,
we called, waited 30 minutes and had to reschedule.

On the fourth trip, we completed a few more items but to finish we would have needed to shut off the water to the house.
She had put the dog in the garage, where the main water shut off was located. Since we could not shut off the water, we could not complete the job.
We discovered that the faucet she had supplied was defective, and would need a new drain.
We called several times and left messages with no answer.

A week later the homeowner had the new part for the faucet and called to reschedule.

The next week, just before we were ready to drive out to finish the job,
the homeowner called us and cancelled the appointment saying she had nobody to watch the dog.

On the fifth trip we were able to complete what was really just a small service job for us.

If She had answered her phone,
If the dog had allowed us to work inside the home,
and we didn’t have to wait a week for the toilet,
and then another week for the faucet drain,
we would have finished the job on our first trip.
I think we "know" why the first plumber “left the job”.
By the way We did not charge her any trip fees for ALL of the added trips,
nor did she ever apologize for wasting our time, as it was an hour roundtrip each time.
It took her a month to pay us.

The homeowner was Deb Benedict of Woodinville WA
The dog was a German Shepard

Terry, I think you are too patient!
This customer and I would have had a much shorter period of time working together...

Default The Case of the Man Eating Dog

I sounds to me that the Dog gets a A for guarding the house.

Deb Benedict should get an F for not making the house ready for workers.
She needed to find a baby sitter for the dog, or put the dog in a kennal while the work was being done.
