Two questions regarding the installation of a p-trap for a recently relocated bathtub. Can the p-trap be the type that uses compression nuts/washers or should it be the fixed (glued joints) type? Also, I was told that local code allows short (<5 feet) horizontal drain lines without a cleanout as long as they are not connected to a lavatory or sink. Is this acceptable? My bathtub drain needs about a 24" horizontal run from the point where I make the vent connection to the main drain line.

Regards,
Steve

I sure hope so! That is just about exactly how my tub/shower is plumbed. Probably the only time you would use a solid trap is when it is going to be embeded an a concrete floor. The drain should have 1/4" slope per foot.

Using a "compression" type trap acts as a clean-out as long as it is accessible. You can kill two birds with one stone!
