Sprinkler pump will not turn off??

I'm at lost on what to do. I woke up this morning and realized my sprinkler pump was still on from the day before. I replaced the pressure swicth but the pump stays on byitself and I would have to turn it off by the breaker. I can manually turn on the sprinklers with my timer and each station will work but when I turn the timer off the pump stays on. When the sprinklers are on the pressure gauge reads 50 PSI. What's left to do?

How does the power get to the pump?
If you follow the power from the pump back, you will find what part of the circuit is staying on when it's not supposed to be. Maybe a bad timer or relay.

Just a thought

The previous owner had pump control relay box next to the breaker however the relay is not connected. I went to the Home Depot this afternoon and the guy said the pressure switch should override the timer but I'll replace the timer and will see if that doesn't fix the problem. Thanks.

If you have a timer, why do you need the pressure switch? Are you using hose bibbs also?

If you have a centrifugal pump, a pressure switch is not the way to go. They are practically impossible to adjust so the pump will shut off without cycling itself to death.

This is the setup when I bought the house. It is a jet pump. So in other words if I have a timer to control the on and off, there is no need for a pressure switch and bladder? No hose bibs.

If it's a jet, a pressure switch isn't a bad idea for safety sake. But if the pump won't make shut off pressure, it will continue to run until it melts down. You either need to lower the switches off pressure setting or find out why the pump can't make more than 50 psi.

Well I replaced the timer this afternoon and still the same problem. The pump does put out more than 50 psi when the sprinklers are off so I know the pump does work it won't turn off. Any ides??? before I call a professional out?
