We just built a new home with a drilled well and septic, and most days for a brief time we get a strong septic smell outside, and a smell that is more like rotten egg or something going bad inside the kitchen, in the corner of the house to the right of the sink. That corner is also the same corner of the house from which we can smell the odor outside. The neighbor's house is on a hill above us, and their septic pipe is about 100 feet up the hill in the same area, above this cursed corner of our house. And the breeze always travels from their pipe downwind toward the corner. So it would seem that we are smelling their pipe, but does this explain how a slightly different odor would be creeping inside our house? The inside corner is where the vent for our range hood is, so it seems that the air might be creeping into the kitchen that way. If you have these smells in your house, will a plumber be able to determine where they are likely coming from? And if the smell is coming from their pipe, what can we do?
