Hospital Toilet Question

Can someone please let me know why the inside diameter of the attached toilet bowl has "horns" pointing in. We are trying to figure what the use or purpose is for. Thank you.

Might it be to hold a special pan, where they needed to collect any waste rather than trying to fish it out of the bowl?

That is to hold a bed pan that they use to help collect a sample. If you ever order one of these you would as for a bed pan toilet. Toto makes one CT708H.

They are called "Bedpan Lugs" and they are to keep the bedpans from moving when put in the bowl.
