I need to replace an expansion tank and was looking at an amtrol fill-trol model. A boiler guy instead recommended using a regular diaphram tank with a separate auto-fill pressure reducing value. I was wondering if this was just his preference or if the fill-trol models were subject to malfunctions. Any and all comments/opinions appreciated. thanks

I'm not a pro, but I'd guess the tanks wear out sooner than an autofill valve, so having them separate is probably good advice.

The boiler guy was right. The fil-trol sucks. If either part breaks you replace both. That sucks.
