Skirted Totos

In researching toilets, i have been told not to purchase a skirted model because if you need to replace the toilet seat, it is nearly impossible to do so because you can't get your hand in the little, removable opening to reach the bolts. I am interested in a skirted model...so easy to keep clean../but hesitate to have to deal with this kind of problem. Anyone have any experience with changing toilet seats on the Toto Vespin or Carlyle?

Whoever said that doesn't know about the supplied toggles that come with the skirted Toto toilets.

It's a no-brainer for anyone that actually reads instructions.

By all means, get the skirted bowls. They are much easier to keep clean and look nicer.

And hire a plumber that can read.
Or do it yourself. Most homeowners read very well.

To change a seat on the Vespin or Carlyle, use a screwdriver. It's that simple.

The holes are blind, but the thing comes with special bolts that attach and tighten entirely from the top...no nut or washer needed. Drop it in the hole, set the seat down, screw the bolt in, and you're done. Don't throw the box away until you find them, though!


Toto Vespin II CST474CEFG with SS114 Softclose seat.
This bowl was installed on a 13-1/2" rough-in using the 14" Unifit adapter.
The water shutoff can be as close as 5-1/2" to the left of center, unless it's higher off the floor, and then it can be even closer to center.
This shutoff had been replaced with a new 1/4 turn valve with brass nipple through the wall.

In some of the older Seattle homes, the old toilets had been wall mounted tank toilets.
Those typically are 14" rough-in and need a flange repair to use standard closet bolt connections at the flange.
Everything is on the truck for that.
The Vespin comes with a standard 12" adapter or you can order a 10" or 14" adapter depending on your rough-in distance.
