Garbage disposal on/off switch

Is it "legal" to install the garbage disposal on/off switch directly over the kitchen sink- up about 8-10inches?

Thank you. We were told by an electrician that it was a code violation so were thinking of having it moved.

Certainly could be. You'd have to check with your local code office.
Or you could ask him for a code citation for the violation.

Mine is in the cabinet so that you have to open the door to run it. Makes for no classic oops starts.
