Another day, another challenge:)

I have a question about my access panel for the tub.

As you can see from the drawing, I can't do a 12" x 18" access panel straight in from the back. I have to come in from an angle.

My question is, does the actual opening have to be 18" wide to get the motor out if necessary, or is that to allow someone enough room to reach in there to work?

Another consideration is that I'll have to cross over the drain pipes. I did make the opening about 15" tall, so I might have a little leeway to go over the pipes if necessary.

Thanks!
