Just bought a new house and the two toilets upstairs do a terrible job with solid waste; two to three flushes. The basement toilet works well. The toilets upstairs are American Standard and probably 20+ years old. Is this just a toilet problem? Any suggestions on reasonably priced toilets? (under $300.00)

Are They 1.6gallon Flush

Do you now if these are low flush (1.6 gallon)??? If so, the original 1.6gal designs were weakly modified designs that did a terrible job at waste removal. My house was built in '93 (15 years ago) and the low volume toilets are prone to clogging, etc.

Toilets

They may just have the wrong parts or are badly adjusted. A picture of the tank insides would tell us which AS system you have, since they produced many variations, each with its own ideosyncrasies.

If these toilets are 20 years old, they are the old full flow units. You may be able to get them working again with new innards, but the best thing to do is to get a couple of new Totos.
