Water coming from the tub/shower has ruined the drywall alongside my bathtub. I am about to replace the drywall, but I want to know if there is a way to stop this from happening again. Would the right paint make a difference?

If you are talking about the wall surrounding your tub that is also a shower, I doubt you will ever have much success with painted drywall. But if you do not want to tile those walls, you might be able to install concrete board and ultimately finish it off with a nice paint.
