You possibly mean 1-1/2" rather than 1/2", and I believe showers are supposed to have 2" drain lines. In any case, a rotary tool like a Dremel might be one way to go.

I have 2" copper waste for my shower drain. It is too long (tall) for my new shower basin so I need to cut it down. How do I cut a piece of pipe that is verticle in the ground?? I can't fit the big pipe cutter in the space. Is there a drill bit or some other way to cut the pipe cleanly?
