I recently bought a special order brushed chrome clawfoot tub water inlet kit and drain. The finish is brushed chrome and I've tried everything to seal the connection between the wall and the hot and cold valves.: plumber tape (500 times around) and plumber putty alone and putty and tape combo. I do recall trying to use a chrome 4" nipple pipe to install a toilet and it leaked too. I finally just used galvinized and called it a day! This time I've spent too much money to not use the pretty finish. Is there a problem with the specilty finishes on plumbing faucet and pipes? Is there another way to seal the threads from the wall to the valves?

pipes

The only problems are when they put the finish on after the threads are made. Other than that it is usually "user error" if they leak. 500 turns? That would make it about the same size as a 2" pipe and could be a good reason for the problem.
