Default 4" Main Drain Line Capacity?

My question is how much capacity is a 4" pvc line capable of handling? I've seen 4" lines going out of apt. buildings, and am wondering what their capacity is.

    Thanks for any replys!

There are plumbing charts that you can google that tell you all that fun information.

In Illinois it is a max of 500 fixture units on a 4" pipe. Which is more than enough for most apartment buildings.

    Default capacity

You will notice in the chart one peculiarity of geometry. At almost all points on the chart a 4" pipe has approximately twice the capacity of a 3" line.
