I am replacing a existing 5' alcove tub with an American Standard Americast Princeton tub. The floor is not level. I understand how to install the ledger board based on the high point of the floor. But this means I will have to shim the outside of the tub where it contacts the floor. What is the best way to shim it? Should I just use tapered shims? Should I place shims the entire length where there is a gap? Or is there a better way to do it?

Also, American Standard recommends that the wall board be shimmed out so that it can go over the flange. Would it be ok to just run the wall board to the top of the flange, seal with silicone, and then run the tile over the flange? Or is there a better way?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Read the installation manual carefully, some tubs specify don't use mortar to bed the tub, but that is probably the best way to ensure you have good support and a level tub.
