P-trap

Probably a stupid question, but can a p-trap be connected perpendicular to the waste line? I have only ever seen them connected inline with/parallel with the waste line but I would assume that it doesn't matter what direction it is connected. Before I fill the hole with concrete I figured I would check to make sure.

The orientation of the p-trap doesn't matter as long as it is placed properly and you have the proper pitch for the inlets and outlets.
