Old three-handle faucet

We just ordered a new 3 handle faucet system for our shower/tub, and discovered the 8" valve spread doesn't match the old fixture's 11" spread. We were trying to avoid busting out the tile (we can go through the back side of the wall through the plaster.

Does anyone make a valve system that matches this old size, or is there another way of doing it? Or do we have to bite the bullet and destroy some tile work?

The reason we are replacing the old one (perhaps vintage 1930s) is that the diverter leaks and the hot and cold handles are really fussy.

Easiest thing is to rebuild the 3 stems and replace the handles and trim if you can get them.

Sorry, I can't find anything on the visible parts that shows a manufacturer's name. All three handles are cross type, possibly chrome or steel (no porcelain) with an H and C (or an arrow for the diverter) engraved in the center of each cross. Don't know if that helps at all.

You can bring them to a plumbing supply store or good hardware store and they can help you find the replacements, if there are any, but a picture would help us to identify them, if you could post one.

11" faucet

California Brass and many other "specialty" manufacturers make 11" faucets.

Do you realize that (depending on where you live) you can repair what you have, but if you replace, it must come up to current code? Current codes for a shower require anti-scald technology. Few are in that configuration, but you might be able to find separate volume, thermostatic control, and divertor valves.
