Hi everyone. I have a question regarding toilet venting. I am considering installing a bathroom in my basement. Fortunately, my waste line is beneath the slab. Just before the house trap there is a 4 inch CI vent that goes up and 90's outside (its at the elevation of the 1st floor). Would I be able to effectively install a wall mount toilet making use of the 4 inch CI vent line? Is this a vent no no? I only ask because everything would just work out so perfect.

The house was built in 1956 and there will be no required inspections.

Thanks in advance!

It is really irrelevant if this will be inspected or not. The reason for inspections is to make sure things are done correctly so that not only will they work, but that they will not be a health hazard. You are among the fortunate in that you have a sewage line under the floor that can be used for waste. It means of course you will have to break up some concrete, but that is not rocket science. I'd suggest you have a plumbing contractor evaluate your site and advise you on the best way to proceed.

OK. Thanks for the replies. I can always tap the line beneath the slab. I guess I was more curious why this would be ill advised.

Because it would interfere with the venting, and the configuration of the pipes below while correct for venting will not be correct for the flow of waste.
