I have an old Hydromatic SP40 in a basement bathroom sump. The switch is acting up and the pump is old, so I think I should get a new one. Perhaps you may offer an opinion on replacement? Get a new SP40? Other recommendations? One plumber says Hydromatics are poor and wants about $750 installed for a .5 HP Stevens with 3 year warranty. Another says $350 for a .3 HP McDonald. I can buy a new SP40 (.4 HP) for about $410 and replace it myself. Suggestions? Thanks!

Brand name is a personal preference!
Grinder Pumps aren't my forte. However Hydromatic uses a Pentair Motor which is tops. http://www.hydromatic.com/sewage_eject_r/sp40.html.
Being a semi-retired contractor, I frown on DIYing, but this looks to me like a DIY project so purchase a new sp-40 and DIY.
