How to remove vinyl underlayment (paper stuff) on concrete bathroom floor?

We've removed the old viny. and there is an old paper underlayment that we've tried to scrape it up, but it's taking forever.

Any ideas? We used a underlayment liquid remover that mixes with water but it's super slow going....

You have the two methods! Scraping and solvents. Be very careful with solvents....flammability and breathability come to mind.

If it is on concrete, you can rent a floor grinder, but really before using that the residue should be lab tested to see if it has asbestos.

It will also matter what you intend to install after you get that up. Thinset doesn't like solvents and can be a bond breaker if you are intending tile. In fact, many glue-down things won't like solvents.

A big razor scraper on a long pole works, but it is not easy. Get lots of extra blades so you have a realtively sharp one.

Don't forget heat.

The proper amount of heat can soften the adhesive. It is better to use it with the vinyl still intact but It'll still work.

Make sure you use the scraper with the replacable blades (like long razor knife blades).
