Having the paint LAST and having it look good are two very different things. Unless you plan on having it professionally sprayed, then it might turn out to look like the result of a kindergarten fingerpainting class!

The folks at the local big box store, and they claim that a primer called the gripper will allow me to paint the tile, and have the paint last. Sounds to good to be true. Is it?

to good to be true im a painting contractor for 30+ years. ici/ glidden gripper will not adhere long term.there are specialized epoxy products for painting tile. go to a local paint store and ask
Even the old tile embossed masonite would look better than painted tile.
