Tank water released just fills bowl with a swirling motion ,but does not generate the swishing suction action needed to flush.

I have tried the following actions: used k-67 bacterial drain and trap cleaner in bowl overnght, tried a 2gal.pail flush and recovered 2 small globs(1"dia) of residue from past usage of 1000 flushes. Followed with another pail flush, and flush was normal.

Tank flushing still not working. The release of tank water does not seem to be as forceful or quick as functioning toilet in another bathroom.

If bowl holes are plugged, is there an alernative to the coat hanger method.

Many Thanks for any and all suggestions.

You can use muriatic acid as opposed to a coat hanger. Turn off the water supply to the tank and flush it. Plunge/sponge out the remaining bowl water. Then lift or remove the flapper in the tank, pour about two cups of the acid into the hole in the center bottom of the toilet tank and about a quart into the toilet bowl. Wear rubber gloves and be very careful. Turn on the exhaust fan, open the window and leave the premises for at least a half hour. Turn the water back on and it should flush fine if obstructed rim holes and syphon jet are the problem.

In-tank cleaners are nothing but trouble. Besides clogging rim holes, they cause premature deterioration of the tank components. If old-fashioned toilet scrubbing is not your thing, there are several newer products that hang on the side of the bowl that do a decent job. Fluidmaster now makes an in-tank cleaning system that injects the chemicals directly into the bowl so that they don't come into contact with the tank water.

Thank you so much, dc!! Will try acid tomorrow, and am also going to install a new fill valve and flapper set. Thanks, again. Don

Not a problem. One of the members here posted that he/she likes to seal up the rim holes with duct tape when using the acid. It stands to reason that by doing so, the acid would stay in the rim channel and more effectively dissolve whatever obstruction is in there. I've never tried it but it sounds like a good idea.

If your toilet has a standard-sized flush valve, I have found from personal experience that the red Fluidmaster flappers are superior to others on the market. If your toilet is of the 1.6 gallon variety, Fluidmaster makes a flapper that allows you to adjust the amount of water that drops from the tank when flushing. All of these are available at big box stores.
