Kohler tub set problem

I'm new here. Hope someone can help.

I'm finishing up a remodel that the previous contractor really messed up and am having trouble getting a Kohler bath set to operate properly. The set includes a regular tub set and a hand held shower. The problem is that the shower will not operate although it is connected to the outlet at the faucets.

Any suggestions will be appreciated!
