You do not need any space if it is really a lead bend. With a lead bend you place the flange over the lead, then flare the lead onto the ring, and solder it.

How much of a gap is required between the floor tile and the lead bend for the toilet? I want to make sure there is enough of a gap to install the closet flange, but not too much to insure proper support for the flange. I plan on having the flange installed on top of the finished tile floor.
Thank you

Thanks for the reply.
I was concerned that the side of the flange would need some space between the lead and the tile to fit properly.
Unless you have a flange that has a "skirt" a brass flange for a lead bend is basically flat and fastens on top of the tile.
