..............we stayed at a Best Western motel and I noticed, (rather ironically given the amount of water you experience in that town), that the toilets, which looked pretty new, were 3.5 gallon flush.............

I guess it's about a mile to The Falls from there, so maybe that's why?

Positive.............I was very surprised, but after looking at the tank, there was no doubt. The writing on the glaze was very clear.

Interestingly, the vanity sink was marked American Standard, SA, which I assume is South America, and it had a hard plastic/vinyl edge rim, which I've never seen before.

Almost like a 'self-sealing' gasket sort of thing. It sounded like glazed steel to my ears when I tapped it.
