In my local paper, there was an article announcing a safety recall of certain AO Smith and State 75g WH. Those affected are:
-AO Smith models FCG-75 300 and FCG-75 301 serial numbers L07A071460 through L07A144966
-State models GS6 75XRR S and GS6 75 CRR S serial numbers M07A009387 and M07A072884

The units were sold between November 2007 and January 2008.

Call 1-866-880-4661 hotline for questions or concernes.

You are directed to immediatley stop use and call. The WH could overheat, catch fire, and cause a carbon monoxide hazard.

It is an issue but not a super serious one, because there are only about 1,200 heaters involved and 75 gallon residential heaters are few and far between. Many of them may still be in the wholesalers back rooms.

only a few thousand this time

I supppose they dont have that many out there yet....

maybe a few thousand ........

at least its not another class action horror story
like the dip tube fiasco which started with their 92 heaters
and went through their 97 line...

or the Pro-max condensation disaster which started in 98 through 2002....
I changed out probably 4 heaters a week under warranty through that time period...

I feel that
they really are going to have start paying those mexicans
who are doing all their R+R down there a little better...

or at least take more time to develope a better product.....
or perhaps they should keep some American Enjeneers on
their pay-roll.... like under retainer or something..at least
look over the plans of their Mexican counterparts....before they start makeing them ...

I mean.....

just becasue you move your business down to mexico
and make something cheaper and of lesser quality ,,
and kill thousands of jobs up here in the USA...

that does not mean you can just dump the cheap junk
back up here and expect us lazy.... ..gullible...americans
to line up and buy it just becasue it is a little cheaper ........... does it???

IMHO....they cant even design a decent FVIR gas water heater in the first place
from what I have seen , and eventually it will come back to bite them...
probably with another class action law suit..

I have already had to blow out about a dozen of them
only two years old with an air compressor to get
the lint out of the bottom of them.....they are such complete junk..

Manuel, ........ FYI .... lint from LAUNDRY ROOMS will clog up ALL your FVIR heaters.

scale from the bottom of the heater tank will pile up on the inside of the burner chamber
and cover the air fiter.......

IMHO this is probably their next class action lawsuit......starting right here.....

maybe they should start selling their water heaters in
Wall Mart.......right next to the Chineese products....
