Hi
We could not fit a nice shower down our stairs so we are going custom, 40wideX54long in a corner, the guy said we should build a pony wall 36 high by 2X6's.( can we use 2x4's I think that will look a little boxy, we want an open look. We need a pivot door because at the end of the shower we have 4" to the infrared sauna. Please suggest a way to at least lower the pony to 18" ( we are using 18 "tile size) and include photos if you can, also we need custom glass (10 mm) thick? Do you run the glass to the ceiling which is 83" high? I have the drain dead center and I am pouring the concrete Monday so asap would help Dave

First, have you engineered the floor correctly already? By that a waterproof membrane on a PRESLOPE substrate....then mortar bed on top of that, sloped to drain? If you have any questions about that part, check with the tile experts at www.johnbridge.com You can get great help there , if you need it. A good book is The Ceramic Tile Handbook, by the Tile Council of North America ( www.tileusa.com)

Anyway, I'm not sure I see why you need these pony walls. Why cant you just have a shower curb and glass up from there. The 10mm glass will of course be quite expensive, and will be a custom install.

Have you considered doing a curb, or pony wall, on the short side, and making it a walk in on the wide side?

I don't get it.

Why won't the shower fit down the stairs? The box too big? Open the box and take it down piece by piece.

What's the pony wall for?

If you can fit full glass pivot door down the stairs, why can't you fit the shower parts down the stairs?

I would NOT run the glass to the ceiling. You already have 1 sauna and don't need another. You will also create moisture problems if you don't allow the steam to escape.
