remodel 1941 bathroom

We own a 1941 farm house. The bathroom has been poorly updated with modern facilities. We would like to remodel with the orginal fixtures and decor of that time period to give atleast one part of our investment an original feel. Where can I find websites with such items.

It makes me wonder what some rich lady from new york
would pay for a bunch of worn out salvage.....


the cast iron tubs and sinks would be ok,

but I would be willling to bet
that most of those old faucets on
those sinks are not repairable..

I have attempted to repair some old faucets
for a lady one time..... it could not be done...


I would not give you a dime for those toilets...


go to LOWES and buy some brand new immitations

Tee-hee. That was you?

Probably not... but back in my handyman days, I got major acclaim a couple of times, fixing antique faucets that plumbers had given up on.

Yeouch. We got a pedestal sink that looks very similar to the ones pictured on the site for under $100 at Home Depot.

Google for Renovation Supply. There are a couple of companies who will be happy to take a lot of money from you, for the old tyme look!

I ran across a local repair supply place that would actually re-make same type spindles and hardware if you have the money to spend

You said it ......if you have the money to piss away
their are people willing to take all you are willing to spend...

I am too busy and just too harsh with customers to mess with the stuff...
(or perhaps I am I too honest.)

Occasionally we will get someone that
"has a plumbing dream--vision "
and they want some 1901 piece of junk they found
in a junk yard re-furbrished...for their new house .

When I tell them that it aint gonna work
they go away un-happy and usually mad at me for
destroying their dream....

but they always find someone else
willing to charge a large amount of $$$
to "consult" with them about the treasure they found......


eventually ....they all go to LOWES and buy something close to
identicle for a very reasonable price.....


but you know ... they still never forgive me
for hurting them so deeply....


perhaps I need to take "sensitivity training"
to better connect emotionally with people
wanting me to do the impossible......

There are a fair selection of retro LOOKING modern devices out there. No reason to waste 6-gallons to flush an old toilet, for example. A ceramic cartridge in a faucet verses a washer and seat works better and lasts longer. FOr a shower, it is illegal to not have a more modern valve. To get the two or three handle look, you'd probably have to go with a thermostatically controlled valve, as most of the pressure balanced ones are single handle. A thermo valve typically uses a volume control and a separate temperature control (and maybe a third for divertor, if you don't use the tub spout).
