Hope all the good experts here are online today.
I finally decided to have a go at replacing my downstairs toilet today.
What I discovered is that the previous owner of the house had laid ceramic tile around the toilet, then filled in the gaps with grout. The toilet was firmly cemented to the floor.
I had to use a Dremel tool to cut the grout around the toilet and a chisel and hammer to chip it away to get the toilet off the floor and flange.
Once the toilet was removed , I was left with a gaping hole in my floor. See attached picture. Its about 3/4 to and inch deep in front of the flange.
Also, the flange is not level. Its level with the floor in the back and on the right side, but about 1/4" below in the front and on the left side.
I test fitted the new Cadet 3. Thankfully, its longer than the toilet it replaces, and sits on tile front and back. I will need to shim it on the back right for stability, but it will work.
Questions:
1) Should I fill to hole in front of the flange to be level with the floor? What with? Quick dry cement?
2) Will the unlevel flange be an issue. I test fitted a 1/4 flange extension, but I think it would be too high in the back and on the right.
3) any other ideas or suggestions welcome!
