Moen 7730 leaking from under handle

How likely is it that I can remove the cartridge without a puller tool?

Did come out without any problem. Just used the plastic tool to give it a twist.

New cartridge is in and the leak seems to have stopped. I was surprised that a leak in the handle assembly would drip through to my fine particle board cabinet bottom. Though some sanding should fix the slightly raised grain (thank goodness it was painted at least).

What's Moen's motto? Buy it for looks, but it for life??? Seems like a pretty short lifetime to me...
