I am installing a Kohler acrylic anclove tub with no tile flange or apron. I see the framing needs to be 1/16th inch for the tub lip. My questions is: Is the alcove ledge necessay since it provides no support for the tub? Thanks in advance.

alcove

Does this tub fill the alcove or is it being deck mounted? If it fills the alcove, then you need a tile flange adapter kit or you WILL have leaks. The ledger is to support the tub's rim so it does not flex when pressure is put on it. You will need it even if you install the tile flange.
