Hi. Our guest bathroom toilet, tub, and sink are draining very slowly. A plumber gave us a free etimate to fix the problem. (I don't believe in "free".) The plumber said the old toilet was clogged with lime deposits. To fix the draining problem, he wants to sell us a Toto Drake CST744SL toilet plus install for $651.44 (not incl tax) and he'd rout the tub drain for free.

I'm not sure if this will fix the draining problem. I think the drain line may be plugged and needs to be cleaned out. A new toilet won't fix that.

We live in Bellevue, WA and the house is about 25 years old. With this in mind:

Draining problem...
  • Is it likely that lime deposits would cause this?
  • How can I check to see if the drain is clogged?
  • If the drain is the problem, how difficult is it to clean? Hire a pro?
  • I can access the drain cleanout. Should we try cleaning through there?
Replacing the toilet...
  • Is an Toto Drake ADA too tall for kids to use? (We have grandkids.)
  • I'm handy with tools and remodeling. How difficult to replace the toilet myself? (Yes I read Jamie's instructions, but he's got experience, weighs 60 lbs more, is 10 inches taller, and I suspect 30 years younger. I'd like to hear from the amateurs on this one.)
Thanks in advance for any advice,

Dan.

If all three things are draining slowly, it's the drain, not the toilet.
Bellevue doesn't have a Lime problem.

I would get someone that clears main lines.
then call us if you want the toilet.

If you want to replace the toilet anyway, after the main line has been fixed,

CST743S installed with softclose in Bellevue, $411.99
CST744S, $434.99
CST744SL, $504.99

Jamie assembles the toilet before he takes it inside.
Most people put the bowl in first.
Then the tank.
Jamie can also throw a football about 75 yards,
Hit a softball about 375 feet.
He's like a freak of nature.

Terry,

Thanks mucho. Obviously the first order of business is getting the drain cleaned. Do you know of a good company in the Bellevue\Kirkland area that cleans drains?

After the drain is cleaned, I'd like to get rid of our toilet anyway. I'll be buyin' it from you folks. I can install it, but it might be worth the install fee to watch Jamie in action. I'll have my stopwatch! :D

Thanks,

Dan.

p.s. Somehow I can sense that you're a proud dad. Of course, he can't be as good lookin' as my grandson (age 3 and the cutest kid in the world)! :D
