Repairing a Pressure-Assisted Toilet

I installed my first pressure-assisted toilet last week--a two-piece, elongated Eljer that had been sitting in the woman's garage for 6 years!

After a few days, the tank-to-bowl gasket failed--no doubt it had dried and cracked from sitting in the garage.

Any other seals are hidden in the tank, which looks like a big "black box" to me. What other stuff can I expect to go wrong with this toilet, and how do I get to them inside that sealed unit in the tank?

Either of these can have the flush cartride and the supply group replaced when necessry. If it is a Sloan, take the complete model number information off the black tank with you to the store. Parts also readily available from friend Google.

we recently fought one of those in a bar....


I just changed out the whole tank..it cost me about $125

it was quick and easy, and from the looks of one of those bladders at 103.00

I broke even or better on the labor..involved.

My 3 year old son has that very same poster hanging above his bed.
He likes to make the "WHOOSH" sound of our Gerber toilet so I bought him that poster.

$125 for the whole tank? The rebuild kit by itself is $145 according to Jimbo's website.

Well, perhaps I am off 30 to 50 bucks...

We did a Gerber last week and it was simply easier
to do it that way.....could not spend the whole day
fooling with it.... I am pretty sure it was about $150
for just the tank....

but I will check it out again for fun


we have had to reapir a couple of Eljer
pressure asisted toilets of late
and the supply house simply does not have the parts
available all the time...

so you do what you got to do
to get the waiting room in the Doctors office back up and running......asap



wehn you add up the time it takes just to change the tank
compaired to finding the parts and fooling with the whole thing it seemed to
add up to me to be worth it....

If you have a tank on the truck. I don't normally carry extra tanks with me, so it means a second trip.
There are parts you can replace, but getting them, or removing them for repair is another matter.

There are places that carry extra tanks though.
In Seattle it would be

(correct me if I'm wrong on this)
I'm sure that all of these companies would do a quality installation.

Southwest and Beacon have $50 off coupons in the phone book, but it still pretty much looks like I'm running a two-for-one deal compared to them.
No wonder they can afford the big yachts and hydroplanes.

Actually Terry....
I dont trust those pressurized toilets...

anything that can startle me and make me jump
a foot off the seat when I do a courtesy flush
when I go to the bathroom is
just not to be trusted..



So I am sort of afraid of fooling
with those bladders and other diaphrams and
plumgers that can be changed out on a older toilet.....

It would be my luck to try to fool with one with
after market parts and see
it flood out a doctors office overnight....

then guess who gets to pay the bill????

So maybe I am wrong, but I KNOW that I cant
go wrong doing the whole tank thing...

for just
a little bit more money...
