I don't know why others do it, but this DIY "help advice" stuff can be a lot of fun, very educational (for me), and a real great hobby because it can be done at any hour at one's own convenience.
I'm not a licensed professional at any of the construction trades, but I've been DIYing for more than 50 years and have learned whatever I know from pros and others.
I got into DIY websites when I got my first computer about 9 years ago. I don't participate nearly as much as I used to, but I have a total of more than 14,000 posts now on various DIY websites as a member or moderator (I'm up all hours of every night).
Sure, I blow something every once in a while (advancing senility LOL), but someone always promptly straightens it out. That's what's great about multiple opinions and numerous people participating.
Keep on keepin on.
