Does anyone have information
on a McDonald pump installed about 1972..the model number on the pump
itself is 4651..the motor is 1/2 hp..It would be great if I could find
out to what depth this model was capable of
pumping. It seems that this unit was part of the 4600 series .

It isn't practical to uncover the well at this time and I'm trying to determine
what it should be replaced with. Well is 175 feet deep but I have no idea how far down the jet/foot valve goes..could be just 50 feet.who knows?

When I get back to my shop I can look it up for you. I'm in the process of possibly taking on their product line. I have the catalog and can look up the pump. The big thing is; is it a deep well jet or shallow well jet pump. A one half horse pump won't go very deep.

It is 1/2 hp motor and 2 pipe system.
I assume if the well is 175 ft deep it is a deep well pump.
The pump is very old..I hope you can find the details so I am able to replace it with the proper pumping capabilities. I just need to know how deep this model was good for.

The well depth has nothing to do with it. It's the water level that counts. I Would say 50 feet is probably the limit for the 1/2hp.

Don't they attach larger pumps to the motors as the hp increases?
I assume you could find no details on McDonald ..

If I do pull the old pump will the water stay in both lines for the most part?
Will I just need a modest amount of water to prime the new pump?

They don't answer the phone, or reply to emails, or point you to a dealer? A check of a Goulds jet pump didn't show anything deeper than 90 feet for their half-horse pump.
