If you trying to ask, is the kids problems tied to the well water, have an extensive water quality test done.

How old is the home and well.

Well water quality can change as areas become built up especially if they are shallow wells.

It's not too often there is an expansion tank on a water heater on a well system...but a closed system is possible if there is a whole house filter with a check valve to prevent reversal of flow.

Expansion tanks can harbor some deadly bacteria when the bladder blows.

Unlike a bladder tank the problem is instantly known with short-cycling/water-logged tank.

On expansion tanks they can go unnoticed for months or years and it becomes a dead end in the potable water system.

I bust a hole in the defective expansion tanks and let them see and smell the nasty water that comes out of the tank.

Guaranteed justification of the replacement of the tank when people see first hand how dangerous that situation is.

It could be a slow-growing problem where a child or adult with a compromised immune system could be having issues stemming from it.

Worth mentioning:

Try a week of NO exposure to that water. No bathing, no showering, not even hand washing including wearing no clothes that have been washed by that water to see if that makes any changes.

IOW, let the kid live somewhere else for a few days/weeks to see if the water is the culprit while waiting on water results.

I am sorry to hear that about the young nephew. I was dx'd with the same problem at age 9. I would be walking and just fall down. I developed it in my knees. The doctors thought I had "trick" knees or I was clumsy. But, I had the same problem as your young nephew. I really did outgrow it if that can be any comfort to you and your family. My advice would be to keep with the doctors recommendations making sure the young boy is taken to a specialist for children only. My opinion on why it happens is it is an immunity problem. I have never been well my entire life. I was born early and plan on dying late, lol.

I would increase vitamins and make sure he gets excerise. Walking is great and using compresses when needed. Go easy on Tylenol. I started running at age 13 and never stopped. Today the only telltale sign of it is unfortuntely or fortunately, my knees are alittle larger than I would like them to be in mini skirts; I am sure this won't matter to your nephew.

As far as the water, I don't think it would have any bearing but who knows. I would get it checked to rule it out. Maybe, like I think Rugged said, move him somewhere else for a couple of weeks. Also, Tool, get a book on herbs. I swear by it. Build up the boys immunity system. It is when your body takes a whack from something that something else can move in. I really would like to know how your nephew is doing from time to time.

Cookie if the guys are looking at your knees, then your mini skirt isn't short enough...

You are welcome. I was just reading in the paper this morning about using Omega-3 oils for arthritis pain. It was saying about eating lots of oily fish such as salmon, fresh tuna, mackerel, sardines and herring, or take daily an omega-3 supplement. It went on saying, several topical ointments may be helpful too. The most effective among these contain capasicin, derived from chili peppers.
