Toto E-Max Flushing System

Has anyone had experience with the Eco Drake or the E-Max Flushing System? Do you know how it compares with the G-Max System?

I'd love to use less water, but does it work OK or I'm I asking for TROUBLE?

Is the Eco-Drake Toto any good? A little help?

I have the same question as Mike. Need to replace three toilets, and want to save most water possible, but not regret a purchase. There is nothing in the Toilet review article about the newer Eco Drake, which uses 1.28 instead of 1.6.
Has anyone bought one?

I've been selling them for a few years now. Most customers have a hard time telling the difference in flush between 1.28 and 1.60 gallons. I've sold hundreds of the new E-Max bowls and tanks. They have worked out very well.

I've done some poking around the web

• SamC (posted 07-23-07 under “difference between low flow and regular bowlâ€) detailed how these work (“The original 2 inch flapper has a cup on the underside that holds a bubble of air causing it to float once opened until all the water has left the tank. The Toto 3 inch flapper has a carefully calibrated hole in the side of the cup. It floats briefly, but then closes before all the water has left the tank, releasing exactly 1.6 gallons.â€). Perhaps the 1.28 is at least in part a variation of this mechanism and thus not very different.
• Same high 900 MaP rating as the 1.6 Drake (http://www.toiletabcs.com/pdf/MaP-Toilet-Test-Results-9th-Edition.pdf), but confusing as Eco Drake is not listed as a 1.2 HET (High-Efficiency Toilet) and is in fact listed as 1.6 here (http://www.toiletabcs.com/pdf/Toilet-Efficiency-Rating-listing.xls).

Flushmate makes the pressure assist for toilets.
They of course feel that their product is the way to go.

The way I see it, all mechanical devices will need work and repairs over time. Some are easy to work on, some not.
At the moment, I have the dual flush Toto Aquia, the 1.6 Ultramax and the Vortens 1.0 pressure assist.
I turn the Vortens pressure assist off when it's not in use. The cartridge doesn't seal all the time, and I hate to listen to the water going down the drain.

A 900 gram rating is nice, but I find that anything over 500 works fine.
Some of the MaP testing I don't understand. I've used the Toto Ultimate elongated at home, rated at 325 grams, and it went a year without plugging.
We replaced it and plugged the Kohler Cimarron, Briggs Vaucity, both that were rated higher. I would like to see them retest with the new methods that they are using now. The Drake was tested with the old method at 900, and it's mainly a two piece version on the one-piece Toto's.
The Ultramax, sharing most of what the Ultimate is, rated out at 700 grams. Plenty good.

The ADA EcoDrake with 1.28 gallons was rated at 900 grams.

I agree, it sure doesn’t make any sense that the Eco Drake, which just came out, was tested (900 MaP) by Mar. 27, 2007, even tho’ it is listed as Drake EL, does it?
It is reassuring that I can be a little relax about the Eco Drake possibly not matching the 900 MaP rating of the Drake, since the Drake configuration has a good track record.
It looks like I am going to be getting an Eco Drake ADA (CST744 EL) and reporting back when it is installed in a couple of weeks.

I too need help deciding on the new eco-Drake!

I was about to buy the ada drake today and came across the emax version online - the eco-drake. I was glad to see your posts as I see very little about it online and no reviews at all! Does anyone know when this actually came out? I was told by a rep. that the emax technology is different than the vaunted g-max, which makes me concerned that maybe it is not as good or too untested! I would love to save more water but do I take the chance not knowing what to expect? Can anyone help with any of these questions - shed some light? (Mike - have you bought one yet?)

Help Deciding

Jblu, I've ordered an Eco Toto which will be delivered next week, but since I am re-doing the flooring, it won't be installed at least for a couple of weeks. They became available (in the Northern California area) a few weeks ago. None of the retail suppliers I spoke to has sold any or at least has feedback. They say the Toto reps are very positive.

More importantly, I have no experience with the 1.6 Toto, so even when I give my impressions, it will have no context.
