I removed the submersible 2 wire 230 volt pump from the cistern at the spring tonight. I want to fill up a 50 gallon garbage can and try to run it (cycling the water back into the can). Will this ruin the pump? The pump is a 4 gallon per minute 1/2 HP 2 wire pump 230 v. Betta Flo Pump. My only concern was that it is a pump designed for a lot of head on it. Will it hurt to just test it for a few minutes?

I think it MAY be the motor which went bad. The company accidently sent me the wrong motor - a SHOOFOO motor from Taiwan. The sent me a replacement "franklin" after I installed this pump/motor combo last summer.

Again, just want to make sure I will not Damage pump by testing it at essential NO HEAD.

Thanks,
Scott

Nope, you can test it in a garbage can.

OK they replaced a SHOOFOO , pump with one made in the USA. Keep the Franklin, don't complain.

Put a valve and pressure gauge on the pump outlet so you may control the "head". You will not get a valid result otherwise. A gate valve would be safest and a relief valve would be a good idea as well. Watch the amp draw as you slowly close the valve to build working pressure.
