We have a 14 year old Kenmore side by side that just died (I think the compressor went). Would it be better to have the compressor repaired, or just buy a new fridge? What is the best fridge to buy? Would like a french door fridge. Looked on-line and noticed a lot of complaints about all models?!? Anyone with exprerience here?
Thanks!

Get a new one.

New refrigerators are much more efficient. There are also complexities about matching the new compressor with the existing condenser and evaporator; they may not match to provide the efficiency that you should get with a new one.

Replace it. There are probably more problems than just the compressor. No matter which one you choose, there will always be someone that has had a bad experience with it, and also several people who would not buy anything else.
