Can I use solder instead of tape or dope?

Can I solder the threaded joint on a tub/shower faucet instead of using teflon tape or pipe dope?

If you check, many valves are sized so that a 1/2 (or 3/4 if it needs that size) pipe will fit inside the threaded portion. Just clean it and flux it well as if it was a standard coupling and solder.
